Of neptuneOf Neptune
Author : Anna Banks
Series : The Syrena Legacy
Genres : Fantasy, Young Adult
Publication : May 2014 by Square Fish

This is the last book in the Syrena Legacy series. This review will spoil you if you haven’t read the previous books.

Goodreads’ synopsis : Emma, who is half human and half Syrena, and her Syrena love, Galen, need time together. Alone. Away from the kingdoms of Poseidon and Triton. Emma’s grandfather, the Poseidon king, suggests the two visit a small town called Neptune.

Neptune is home to both Syrena and Half Breeds alike. But Emma and Galen didn’t sign up to be peacemakers between the ocean and land-dwelling, freshwater Syrena. They didn’t bargain for meeting a charming Half Breed named Reed, who can barely disguise his feelings for Emma. And they especially didn’t expect to find themselves in the middle of a power struggle that threatens not only their love but their ocean kingdoms.

In this book, Emma and Galen are read to go on vacation, to spend some quality time together. But Galen is still dealing with his loss.
King Antonis decides to tell something to Emma, a big secret. This will lead the couple into a strange quest.

In the city of Neptune, they meet Reed who fall immediately in love with Emma. Yeah. Instant love.

Honestly, the series could have ended with Of Triton, the previous book.
Of Neptune feels like an annex story, like it could have been a novella. That’s only my opinion, of course !

I really had some issues with this book.
First, Emma and Galen’s fight didn’t felt natural to me. Like out of the blue.

Also, Reder’s hospitality and kindness. I mean, your city is supposed to stay hidden from the ocean dwellers. One of them arrives in your city and you invite him to stay for dinner, really ?

Another thing is Emma’s attitude toward Galen’s disparition. Yeah they had a fight and all, but your boyfriend has left and don’t return your calls nor your messages and yet she decides to go and visit the city with Reed. I think that’s a weird way to act, to be honest.
If I were in her shoes, I would have alerted all the Neptune citizens and organized a research party way before she did.

Overall, I enjoyed reading it. The ending was action packed. Moreover, the characters were as witty as I remembered !!
