Hello everyone ! Today I want to discuss something that has been nagging at me for a long time : the book bloggers and the booktubers.

The first book-related social media I had was Bookstagram. I grew very fond of this awesome community. It amazes me how some people are able to take stunning shots of books. I don’t remember exactly when I changed my page to a bookstagram one but I really  don’t regret it. I love taking photos of books, searching for new trinkets, new ideas etc. It really grew on me. I “met” amazing people thanks to bookstagram !

Then I created this blog after I passed my thesis because I wanted to share my reviews somewhere else than on Goodreads.Slowly I started to post other book-related stuff, such as tags, awards, TV adaptations etc. I also learned (and still am !) how to create basic adornments for my blog. I’m trying to improve my blog step by step ! I really enjoy posting here ! I also discovered an amazing community and love to read posts every day.

But I have been watching Booktube for years now. In fact, it was my very first glimpse of the bookish community. And I’ve always wanted to start a booktube channel. In fact, my blog was supposed to be the first step before creating my channel. (and now I can’t imagine NOT posting here haha !)
There were two things that refrained me :

  • the camera (and I still need to buy a fancy one, and it’s not just for booktube)
  • my French accent

Now, there is another thing : the fact that I don’t know if I’ll have time to do everything : taking photos for instagram, writing blog posts and recording videos. It seems impossible ! And even though I would really like to own a booktube channel, I don’t want to neglect my blog nor my bookstagram page !

What about you ? Do you post on other social medias ? If so, how do you manage to do everything ?

  1. In addition to being a book blogger, I’m also a Bookstagrammer! My book blog takes priority, and I like using my Bookstagram to interact with other book lovers on Instagram, and to take photos that I’d use for my blog. I would say that since I got more into my book blog, I’ve definitely been neglecting my Bookstagram more… I think this is probably because I don’t have much time as it is being so busy with school now. I should have much more time to balance the two in a couple of months once this semester is over!

  2. I started as a booktuber first and while it was really fun, I felt really awkward in front of a camera and I felt like my personality didn’t transmit well to the viewer. Which is why I started my blog, it’s a lot easier for me to express myself through writing. And one day I will bookstagram forever! I really want to start taking pictures of books, I just need more physical books and more batteries #thirdworldproblems

  3. Oh I love booktube! I understand about the camera but you can start with whatever camera you have now, even your phone, and switch to a higher quality one later. And don’t worry about your accent. I follow several booktubers with accents, some heavy some not. When it comes to accent, I think people just have to be patient and listen.
    I have a booktube channel but I don’t post anything there. I’d like to do videos but I’m shy and don’t have the time to edit them and all. I only have my blog, Goodreads, and Instagram.

    1. Yeah but I need a good camera. My last one died during my trip to London…
      And yeah about the accent…I’ll just have to get over it.
      And yeah I think editing is really time consuming

  4. I totally get what you mean by managing to do everything. Staying active on social media and posting regularly on the blog can be quite hectic sometimes, especially because of school. Like you, even I was first introduced to the bookish community through booktube. I loved watching people talk about books and especially see their book hauls! (Those are my favorite :D) So then I eventually decided to create a blog and share my love for reading too 🙂 But that was way after I joined bookstagram — and to be totally honest, I had no idea what the blogging community was when I first created my account haha 🙈 it’s introduced me to so many amazing things, and I doubt I’ll ever regret my decision of joining bookstagram!

  5. Great post! I actually tried putting up videos on Youtube, but … let’s just say they didn’t turn out that great. The light in my apartment is TERRIBLE! I think the sound would sort of work and I could get better at editing and stuff, but the light … I don’t want to spend tons of cash on that .. so, I participated in three or four book-tube-a-thon challenges and then abandoned the channel again :/ Also, I found that I was a little stuck when I tried to vocalise reviews … much easier for me to write them!
    I doubt that your accent would be an issue though 😉 don’t let that be the thing that holds you back!

    And I do have a bookstagram account … but I haven’t found my uniform style yet. The lighting is often an issue for that as well.

    1. Yeah but there’s the need of time, too ! And yeah light is important ! I live in the south of france and my appart is really well lighted. I also learned the best hours to take photos haha

  6. Booktube (watching) is what got me back into reading some years ago. At the time not something i could see myself ever doing. Then -not sure how it happened- i got into instagram and over time that turned mainly into a book account.

    I have Always been blogging on and off -sometimes more succesful than other times- but right now it’s a blog that I just use whenever I feel like it. Instagram is definitely my main focus. sometimes when i feel like i want to talk a bit more about a subject i might post it on my blog + my book reviews get posten on there as well.

    Last summer I actually finally tried the booktube thign myself, but it didn’t work out that well. I prefer being behind the camera and it was jsut stressing me out. Maybe i’ll try again one day, but for now I’m happy with jsut being an instagrammer.

    1. I understand the whole “I’d rather stay behind the camera”. The only times I was actually in front of it were for our techpara demos. And I was dancing, not talking haha

  7. Doing it all seems so time-consuming :-/ I had an Instagram account before starting my blog, but I could not find what to make of it as I am not a fan of selfies. Then I began to use it as a support of my blog. I’m still new at all of this so I cannot imagine adding a bookchannel. Moreover, I’m not much into vids. For the French accent, I know the feeling. As an English student, I’ve been practicing to lose it in favor of an American accent. I feel pretty confident when talking but there is no way I’d make videos. Still, I think it would not matter so much if the content is interesting and viewers feel you’re enjoying yourself 🙂

  8. I only have a book blog, I do have an Instagram but I use it for travel and personal pictures. Trying to do it all seems like a full-time job, and only having a blog is time-consuming already, ahah. But I do admire people who can do it all, and oh, those instagram pictures with books, I’m forever jealous, they are SO beautiful, ahah.
    I think if you want to do videos, you should! The French accent really isn’t a problem, as long as you can talk in English very well -which I know you can 😉 – and you’re having a great time, showing enthousiasm and everything, well…you’re good to go 😀

  9. I just started a bookstagram account a few weeks ago and it quickly became apparent that was not enough. So here I am with a blog! I needed the space to be able to write at length about the book I have read. I believe bookstagram is a great tool to drive people to your blog and to meet and talk with other readers! I love both communities!
