Synopsis : I was warned about Tristan Cole. “Stay away from him,” people said. “He’s cruel.” “He’s cold.” “He’s damaged.”

It’s easy to judge a man because of his past. To look at Tristan and see a monster. But I couldn’t do that. I had to accept the wreckage that lived inside of him, because it also lived inside of me.

We were both empty. We were both looking for something else. Something more. We both wanted to put together the shattered pieces of our yesterdays. Then perhaps we could finally remember how to breathe.

I really enjoyed this book ! I read it in French and the translation was pretty good in my opinion !

Plot

It’s a story about two completely broken people. Both of them are a HUGE mess, in their own way.
On one hand, we’ve got Elizabeth, taking care of her daughter Emma on her own since her husband died in a car accident. She is not living, she’s barely surviving for the sake of her daughter.

On the other hand we’ve got Tristan Cole, who lost his wife and his son.
Two broken people. Two shattered souls.

Tristan Cole is determined to be miserable for the rest of his life. Emma wants to learn to live and breathe again, for Emma.
Tristan is so mean at the beginning ! But slowly he opens up to Elizabeth and her adorable daughter.
Somehow they decide to “help” each other : they’re sex friends in order to remember and somehow forget their loved ones.
They realize how difficult it’s gonna be to move on. Slowly but surely, they grow fond of each other, develop feelings.
That’s it, until the big plot twist. Then Tristan decides to flee instead of facing the painful truth.

No soulmate leaves the world alone; they always take a piece of their other half along with them.

I really enjoyed this book ! It was cute, funny, sad and also quite steamy !
The writing style was really beautiful ! I cannot say too much but it was hard to put the book down.

The story is pretty amazing ! The plot twists surprised me. I’m difficult to surprise while reading this kind of books. Usually the plot is very simplistic. Well, not that one !

Sometimes tomorrow never comes and you’re only left with the memories of yesterdays.

Characters

  • Elizabeth is struggling to breathe. She doesn’t know if she’s drowning or floating. The only reason she’s living for is her precious daughter. But crossing path with Cole is changing things.
  • Tristan is dead on the inside. With caring comes suffering. But he can’t stay away from Elizabeth.
  • Emma is very mature for her age. She is so adorable !

Overall I really enjoyed this book ! I highly recommend it !

As long as air moves in and out of my lungs … as long as I breathe, I will fight for you. I will fight for us.

  1. I’m happy you liked this one! I did, too. Although, things did get a little crazy towards the end if I remember right. I have to also say it’s awesome that you read it in French! I’m impressed! Nice review.
