the emperor's new clothes tag

Hello everyone ! It has been SO LONG since I made a tag ! But guess what ? I’m back in the game ! I was tagged by Kat from lifeandotherdisasters to do the emperor’s new clothes book tag !

“YOUR MAJESTY, THIS IS A MAGIC SUIT” – An overhyped book that promised to be *something more*

the book thief

Okay, don’t yell at me please. But The Book Thief was a DNF for me.
I was expecting SO MUCH of this book !

And yet, the POV was too cold for my taste…That’s why I decided to put it down and I never picked it up again !
Nonetheless, I know this is a greatly loved book.

“SOMEBODY SEND FOR THE QUEEN” – A love interest that wasn’t called for

Zedd, in the After series by Anna Todd.
Seriously, guy, when did you think you had any chance ?!

I really LOVED this series, but this love interest, nah.
Which reminds me that I need to read Nothing More ! It’s a my September TBR.

“THE DOUBLET IS A LOVELY SHADE OF GREEN” – A book that seduced you with its cover (that you ended up disliking)

Fallen by Lauren Kate. Well maybe not the first book. I bought itbecause of the gothic vibes on the cover. I bought the sequels and I even finished reading the whole series. But to be honest I kind of forced myself to do it. I wasn’t enjoying it anymore !

Did you read it ?

“SUMMON THE COURT TO CONVENE” – A book where you were swayed by public opinion

I have to make the same answer than Kat : Twilight by Stephenie Meyer.
I LOVED these books when I read it many yeas ago. And I still love it. But I wouldn’t dare reread it now because my opinion would be tainted by all the negative things I read and heard about this series.

So yep.

“LOOK AT THE THE KING! LOOK AT THE KING, THE KING, THE KING!” – A stark raving mad book that just boggles the mind

Vicious by V.E. Schwab.
I won’t talk about this book, but you know my love for this book, or at least I hope you do !

It’s an unique read and I can only highly recommend it !

“IT’S ALTOGETHER THE VERY LEAST THE KING HAS EVER WORN” – A tropey get up you’ve seen before that probably needs redressing (aka a trope you’re bored with seeing)

The love triangle. blah. Unless it’s particularly well written, it bores the hell out of me now.

“SUMMON THE COURT PHYSICIAN! CALL AN INTERMISSION!” – A book that needs medical attention aka a rewrite

Maybe Fallen by Lauren Kate.

“IT’S ALTOGETHER THE VERY LEAST THE KING HAS EVER WORN” –  There’s no hiding for this one: a book that is just nakedly bad

I don’t have a specific book in mind for that one !

BONUS: “HIS MAJESTY IS WIDE OPEN TO RIDICULE AND SCORN”- Something (anything) that astounds you with its popularity

I mean I like it too, but it’s too much, on every radio, everytime ! Stop it already, summer is over hahaha !

That’s it ! I hope you enjoyed it ! I had so much fun aswering these questions !

I tag thee :

The Winner's KissThe Winner’s Kiss
Author : Marie Rutkoski
Series : The Winner’s trilogy
Genres : Fantasy, Young Adult
Publication : March 24th 2016 by Bloomsbury Children’s

Synopsis : War has begun. Arin is in the thick of it with untrustworthy new allies and the empire as his enemy. Though he has convinced himself that he no longer loves Kestrel, Arin hasn’t forgotten her, or how she became exactly the kind of person he has always despised. She cared more for the empire than she did for the lives of innocent people—and certainly more than she did for him.

At least, that’s what he thinks.

In the frozen north, Kestrel is a prisoner in a brutal work camp. As she searches desperately for a way to escape, she wishes Arin could know what she sacrificed for him. She wishes she could make the empire pay for what they’ve done to her.

But no one gets what they want just by wishing.

As the war intensifies, both Kestrel and Arin discover that the world is changing. The East is pitted against the West, and they are caught in between. With so much to lose, can anybody really win?

It’s the final book in The Winner’s trilogy by Marie Rutkoski ! I really enjoyed this trilogy and this installment ends perfectly this incredible story ! This review will spoil you if you haven’t read the two previous books.

It starts with Kestrel imprisoned. A lot of awful things happen to her during her captivity. Arin is told the truth and decides to go and save her.

You don’t need to be gifted with a blade. You are your own best weapon.

This book was a roller coaster for my little heart ! Deception, betrayal, friendship, romance, cunning strategies etc… You can find all of these and even more into this book !
I enjoyed everything in this story : how Kestrel came back stronger than ever, the war strategies, the cultural melting pot, the writing style… Really, this book is amazing !

It’s an epic story, and I got surprised more than once while reading it ! Although I really liked the plot, I LOVED how the characters were written ! And not just Kestrel and Arin, but also the side characters !

This book was everything I could have asked for ! It was mostly action-packed, surprising and so beautifully written ! Sometimes, the last book can be a little disappointing compared to the rest of a series, but I can assure you that it wasn’t the case at all with that one ! It was an amazing read and it ended perfectly this awesome and stunning trilogy !

The reason you enjoy my company is because I look like how you feel.

  • Kestrel is such an amazing character ! She is so strong despite everything that happened to her. She is fierce, and so smart, and follows her heart, no matter the consequences.
  • Arin is such a babe, a swoon-worthy character ! He wears his heart on his sleeve ! Kind, honest and so desperately in love with Kestrel !
  • Risha is another fierce female character ! I wish we got to read more about her !
  • Roshar is such an interesting and complex character ! He is eaten alive by his guilt about his sister’s condition ! He holds Arin in high esteem but is too proud to show it.
  • Verex changed so much through this trilogy. Now he fights with his weapons to protect and save the people he cares about.
  • The Emperor is another interesting character. Complex and cunning, I wanted to know more about him !

If I die, you’ll survive. If you die, it will destroy me.

Hello lovelies ! How are you ? It’s time for another TWIB ! It’s a weekly meme hosted by Lipsyy Lost & Found ! So without further ado, here is my weekly recap !

twib 44

So, last week I’ve been reading two books : Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers that I really loved and Get The Hell Over It by Sarah Beth Moore. I also really enjoyed this book. I already posted my review. It’s a very helpful book for those who want to realize a creative dream !

I am currently reading Lord Of Shadows by Cassandra Clare. It’s the second book in The Dark Artifices trilogy. I am really afraid of this book, I must say. Especially with a chapter I just read. Ahem.

Next I plan on reading Dark Triumph by Robin LaFevers, the second book in His Fair Assassin trilogy. I cannot wait to read more about this story ! Even though I don’t know how I feel about the change of main character.

That’s it ! What are you currently reading ?

Hello lovelies ! How are you ? I’m back for another TTT ! Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke And The Bookish !

Today’s theme is : top ten books I struggled to get into but ended up loving.

  • The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski. It took me a while to get into the story. In the end I loved it !
  • Dragonfly In Ember by Diana Gabaldon. Oh boy, the first part was so slow paced ! I even put it aside for a while…
  • A Book Of Spirits And Thieves by Morgan Rhodes. I had a hard time getting into it because I found it difficult to get attached to the characters.

  • I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson. It also took me like 100 pages to actually get into the story and fall in love with these characters !
  • A Court Of Thorns And Roses by Sarah J. Maas. The first part is a bit slow. But trust me, it’s totally worth it !
  • Les Fiancés De L’Hiver by Christelle Dabos. Same reason,I found the first part slow, even a little boring to be honest.

That’s it ! My top ten is a top six but that’s okay haha !

Hello lovelies ! How are you ? It’s time for my September TBR ! I hope to read 5 books this month ! Let’s start, shall we ?

  • Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers that I am currently reading ! It’s the first book in His Fair Assassin trilogy.
  • Dark Triumph by Robin LaFevers. It’s the second book in His Fair Assassin. I have had this trilogy on my TBR shelves for ages now !
  • Our Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab, the second and final book in the Monsters Of Verity duology. I am both excited AND afraid to read it !
  • Lord Of Shadows by Cassandra Clare, the second book in The Dark Artifices trilogy. I LOVED the first book and I cannot wait to read this sequel !
  • Nothing More by Anna Todd. I miss her characters so freaking much !

That’s it ! I know I probably won’t get to read as much but that’s okay !!

Get The Hell Over itGet The Hell Over It
Author : Sarah Beth Moore
Genre : non fiction
Publication : September 1st 2017 by New Leaf Writing

Synopsis : Finally: The Real Way to Claim the Profitable Creative Life You’ve Always Wanted!

Cravings. We all have them. But these days, it’s easier to indulge your sweet tooth than it is to reach
your wildest dreams. At least, it certainly feels that way. And you know the type of dreams we’re talking
about, right? Everything from living where you want and building a career you can pursue around the
world, to accomplishments that stand the weight of time. These dreams go beyond hashtags and high-
resolution photos, and the best part is that they’re well within your reach. In fact, they’ve always have
been waiting for you. But when we’re afraid, it’s hard to pull back that huge curtain of fear and see our
heart’s desires. Don’t worry; you just need help putting it all together.

It’s the first time I’m reading (and reviewing) a non fictional book. And I’m glad Sarah contacted me for reviewing her book because I learned a lot of things while reading it !

You’ve always got this dream, and it kept nagging at you ? But you’re afraid to fail so you never decided to jump into the unknown ? Well, this book is made for you !

Sarah wrote a book in which she distills some precious advice. It’s short because it goes straight to the point. Thanks to her own experience and based on solid sources, she guides the reader on the difficult path of making this creative dream come true.
She separates the fantasy from a dream, and helps the reader to, well, get the hell over his fears.
She shares her tips : space, time, tools, she lets nothing aside !

There’s a even bonus : she finishes her chapters with exercises ! I think it’s really helpful !

To put it in a nutshell, I really enjoyed reading this book ! I learned a lot of things that I’m sure will be a plus for my blog !
I think it’s a precious book for those who want to launch their creative project but have always postponed it because of their fear of failure ! Read it, and get the hell over it !

About the author

Sarah Beth MooreSarah Beth Moore is a professional copywriter, content marketer and writing coach. If there’s one thing she’s learned from running a business and tippety-typing words all day, it’s this: Y’all, it just ain’t as hard as it looks.

Many people come to Sarah because they simply have no idea how to pursue that creative dream without fear, which prompted her eventually to write this book. Because the secret … well, there is no secret other than getting the hell over it. Which is surprisingly hard, but surprisingly possible, given just a few simple mindset shifts and some serious ovary-grabbing.

Sarah is a professional copywriter, content marketer and writing coach. She has a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University and has worked as a professional writer for the last seven years. She also possesses a master’s-level teaching degree, so she’s super good at telling other people what’s what. In addition to teaching courses on copywriting and direct marketing, she writes copy for a range of clients.

When she’s not working or teaching other creatives, she can be found reading young adult fantasy, binge-watching science fiction shows/movies/anything, and playing with her two rugrats.
