Today’s theme is Top Ten Books That Surprised Me.

• Anna And The French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. I read it years ago and I wasn’t expecting too be hooked that way !
• After by Anna Todd. Same as above. I bought her book because I was gonna see her a second time at a bookish event and I wanted to give her work a try. Oh boy !
• The Air He Breathes by Brittainy C. Cherry. Another good surprise !

• The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski. It was totally a cover buy. Well I don’t regret it at all !
• An Ember In The Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. One of the very few books I bought because of the hype. I’m always afraid when it comes to reading a hyped book.
• Six Of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. Another very good surprise !
• A Court Of Thorns And Roses by Sarah J. Maas. One of my now favorite series !

• The Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Another big positive surprise !
• Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. It’s a life changing book, in my case. It opened my eyes !
• Cinder by Marissa Meyer. The Lunar Chronicles is another good surprise !

• The After series by Anna Todd. WhenI started reading this series, I wasn’t expecting this hell of a ride !!
• A French series called Le Pacte Des Marchombres by Pierre Bottero. Imagine a mix between Celaena Sardothien, Rose Hathaway and Vin and you get a hint of that amazing MC !
• L’Héritage Des Rois Passeurs by Manon Fargetton. One of my favorite reads of 2017  and I know for sure that I’m gonna reread this book often !

Last week I was reading Without Merit by Colleen Hoover. I freakin’ LOVED it ! As always with her books, CoHo surprised me and I got hooked almost immediately ! 5 stars !
I’m currently reading Nothing Less by Anna Todd And I hope to finish it tonight ! I really enjoy it so far !
Next I plan on reading Harry Potter And The Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling. But since I’m taking the train tomorrow, I’ll probably start La Main De L’Empereur by Olivier Gay on my kindle !

| MEMES | TOP TEN TUESDAY – TOP TEN BOOKS I’M THANKFUL FOR

Hello lovelies ! How are you ? I can’t believe it’s already Tuesday ! Which means it’s time for another Top Ten Tuesday ! It’s a weekly meme hosted by The Broke And The bookish.

Today’s theme is top ten books I’m thankful for !

• Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling is the first book I read in English because I couldn’t wait for the French version to be released. It made me realize that I was able to read in English.
• The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. I think it’s the second book I read in English that I bought when I started watching booktubers.
• City Of Bones by Cassandra Clare, that really started my love for YA !

• Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. That book changed my vision of life. Really !
• The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. That book I read in French and discovered two things : YA and dystopia !
• After by Anna Todd that learned me not to judge a book because it’s a fanfiction haha !

That’s it, it’s only a top 6 but that’s okay !

| LET’S TALK | CHANGES OF MAIN CHARACTER(S) IN A SERIES

Hello lovelies ! It has been a long time since I made a discussion post. Today I wanna talk about the change of main character in a series.

I am currently reading Dark Triumph by Robin Lafevers. It’s the second book in His Fair Assassin. The first book, Grave Mercy was taking place around Ismae. The book follows her on a very important mission regarding Gavriel Duval. But the second book follows Sybella, another girl trained at the convent. She crossed path with Ismae in the previous book, though. It’s the first time I read a fantasy series with a change of main character !

I am used to this change of MC in contemporary/romance series. Usually I don’t mind it, in the contemporary or romance books. It allows the writer to publish a whole series, to stay in a world they have built. Because let’s be honest, a whole romance series around the same MC, it’s pretty rare. I only have the After series in mind. Or maybe it happens when there are a lot of MC, such as in The Islanders series.

But to be honest, I find it rather disturbing in a fantasy series. I get it, His Fair Assassin is not a trilogy but rather companion novels. But I feel like we don’t get to really get attached to the characters. It’s easier when it’s a contemporary series because it’s easier to identify yourself to said character or to a situation. Moreover, we always know a lot about their feelings haha !
So I really prefer it the old fashioned way : a fantasy series with the same MC posse !

What about you, what’s your opinion on the matter ?

 

SUMMER / BEACH READS

Hello lovelies ! I missed yesterday’s TTT, so I decided to do a post about it anyway ! In Summer, I tend to read more romance books ! So yeah, be prepared !

The Islanders by Katherine Applegate is a series that I really really loved ! It’s about a bunch of teens living on a small island. Their posse, the relationships, the plot, the writing style… everything about this series I absolutely adored !

The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. I’ve only read the first two books but I can picture myself reading it wrapped in a comfy blanket, sipping tea or on my balcony, while drinking iced tea !

Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan is a wonderful contemporary read but I wouldn’t bring it to the beach with me you know ? I’m not a fan of crying in public hahaha !

Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson feels like a summer holiday. It’s about a road trip, and there are playlists ! Yep, definitively holidays !

Anna And The French Kiss and its two companion novels by Stephanie Perkins is the cutest read you could ever find ! Perfect for the Summer !

The After series by Anna Todd is far from being your usual romance read ! And it’s another book I wouldn’t bring to the beach with me ! I was obsessed with this series, I was so hard to put the book down !

It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover is an eye-opener book ! It’s far from being a light read, but I loved it so much. It can be said for all CoHo’s books though.

The Air He Breathes by Brittainy C. Cherry, another powerful romance ! The perfect summer read !

| MEMES | TOP TEN TUESDAY – TOP TEN BOOKS THAT WILL MAKE YOU READ THE WHOLE DAY AWAY

Hello everyone ! It’s that time again ! Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke And The Bookish.

Today theme is : top ten books that will make you read the whole day away !

The most obvious picks for that TTT are romance books. They are, in my opinion, quick reads but also you can’t help yourself but want to know EVERYTHING.
So, the whole After series by Anna Todd is one of these books. SO gripping, I was literally obsessed with his story ! It was unputdownable !
Anna And The French Kiss and the two companions novels by Stephanie Perkins. I adored these books and it was so difficult to put them down !
The Rusk University series by Cora Carmack. Same deal haha !
The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West. Such a cute and gripping story !

But they are also fantasy series that can fit in that TTT. The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling of course being the most evident one.
The Throne Of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas is another amazing series that is captivating !!
The Infernal Devices trilogy by Cassandra Clare totally had this effect on me. I was living, breathing and eating among Jem, Tesssa and Will.
The Six Of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo is another perfect example ! So gripping ! And it reminds me… I still need to write my reviews for these two books… ahem.

The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer is another series that comes to my mind for this week’s topic.
And there’s also the Shades Of Magic series by V. E. Schwab. I adore these books and I can’t wait to finally get my copy ! My preorder never arrived…

I marathoned the Grisha trilogy so I could read the Six Of Crows duology. I was really attracted by this stunning cover !
Seriously, look at it !
But the book ended being totally worth the hype ! One of my favorite reads for 2016 !!

BEAST – A BOOK YOU DIDN’T EXPECT MUCH FROM BUT PLEASANTLY SURPRISED YOU

After by Anna Todd, and the whole series !
I only picked up this book because I was to meet her again and I wanted to read at least one of her books before ! Well, I was positively surprised ! It’s far from being perfect, but I really enjoyed it ! I grew obsessed with the After series while reading it !

Now I need to buy the Landon duology !

GASTON – A BOOK EVERYONE LOVES THAT YOU DON’T

LEFOU – A LOYAL SIDEKICK YOU CAN’T HELP BUT LOVE MORE THAN THEIR COUNTER PART

Iko, from Cinder by Marissa Meyer. I can’t tell you how much I love Iko !
She is so funny, and loyal ! I think she has the best quotes !
But don’t get me wrong, I do love Cinder too !
It’s just that the sidekick character in this book is THAT awesome !!!

I am currently reading Cress, the third book in The Lunar Chronicles series and enjoying it so far !

MRS. POTT, CHIP, LUMIER & COGSWORTH – A BOOK THAT HELPED YOU THROUGH A DIFFICULT TIME OR THAT TAUGHT YOU SOMETHING VALUABLE

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. This book, oh this book guys ! It opened my eyes on so many important things !

I realized that I needed to live my life at its best and enjoy every minute of it ! It’s such a wonderful read !
I highly recommend it if you haven’t read it already  !

“SOMETHING THERE” – A BOOK OR A SERIES THAT YOU WEREN’T INTO AT FIRST BUT PICKED UP TOWARDS THE END

The Falling Kingdoms series by Morgan Rhodes. I wasn’t really planning on buying it but I kept seeing these books everywhere and I got intrigued !
I still need to buy Crystal Storm that came out back in December though !
But I’m really enjoying this series so far ! I even read the first two books in the spin-off series, Spirits and Thieves !
It’s such a great world, so well built and the characters are really interesting !

“BE OUR GUEST” – A FICTIONAL CHARACTER YOU’D LOVE TO HAVE OVER FOR DINNER

Jem Carstairs, from The Infernal Devices trilogy by Cassandra Clare.

But let’s be honest, I don’t want to just have him over for dinner, if you get what I mean ! Ahem.
Jem is my bookish crush, my bae. So OF COURSE it has to be him !

This is the final book in the After series. And what a challenge it was for my little heart ! This book is just like the previous one : a roller coaster for my emotions !

Plot

In this final installment, Tessa is moving  on. Hardin abandoned her once again. But something triggers his come back. Don’t worry, I’m not gonna spoil you !
Hardin realizes that his self-loathing is costing him the woman he loves.

The roles are inverted : now Hardin is chasing Tessa. He wants to prove her that he is the love of her life, that he is worthy of her love and her trust. And I have to be honest : I enjoyed seeing him grovel ! It was nice to witness a change in their dynamic. Somehow it was really ironic !
When he finally wants to invest himself fully in their relationship, Tessa gives up on them !

Until the very end you can’t guess if they’re gonna end together or not ! And what an exquisite torture it was ! I was terrified for the ending ! You can only wish for it to be an happy one ! I wanted so badly to disconnect from the reality, to stay focused on their story ! I even cheated a little at one point : I read the final page… I know I know ! Shame on me and shame on my cow !

I think the jumps in time where necessary to bring a feeling of closure to their epic journey.Something else is also revealed, something Hardin was trying to hide from Tessa. I was positively surprised !

You won’t know how lucky you are to be able to spend your life with the other half of your soul until you have to spend your life without them.

When I started this series I couldn’t have guesses that I would be obsessed with Hessa while reading it !I am so glad I decided to pick After before meeting Anna Todd for the second time at the New Romance Festival !

This is the perfect ending to an amazing and engrossing series. I was constantly on the edge of my seat during all my read !

Characters

• Tessa worried the hell out of me in this book. First, she is destroyed by Hardin’s reject. And then she had to witness the unthinkable.  She struggles to find the will to keep going on ! But living in New York with Landon is helping her.
• Hardin changed and I love the “new” Hardin. He changed totally ! He is trying to fix all the things and people he has broken, particularly Tessa. He wants to win her back, no matter what !
  I love the angsty, broody Hardin but I think I love that version of him even more !
• Zedd is really worse than I thought. He manipulated Tessa and she was so blind to it !
