  • The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski. It was totally a cover buy. Well I don’t regret it at all !

That’s it ! What’s on your Top Ten Tuesday this week ?

Hello lovelies ! It’s that time again ! Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke And The Bookish !

This week’s theme is : top ten favorite villains !

Beware this post contains spoilers, so if you haven’t read the books featured on the pictures, maybe skip this post !

The first six villains are the ones that I really like and can’t manage to hate haha ! First is obviously The Darkling from The Grisha trilogy ! It’s such a complex character, he is dark, twisted and yet I can’t help but really like him. There’s also Sebastian Morgensten from The Mortal Instruments series. This guy is pure evil but yet … There’s also Blake from the Lux series, even though he is less appealing than the two previous ones !

Holland from the Shades Of Magic series is another perfect example ! There’s also Dimitri from the Vampire Academy series, when he is a strigoï. And finally, Seth from the Covenant series when he is driven by his need of power.

These 6 villains I can’t help but love them or care deeply for them ! Now for the following ones, it’s different : I love to hate them ! The perfect villains you want to strangle personally, you know ?

In no particular order : Thiago from the Daughter Of Smoke And Bone series, The Commandand from An Ember In The Ashes, the King Of Adarlan from Throne Of Glass series and finally Voldemort from Harry Potter ! These 4 villains are creepy and have such a twisted mind !

That’s it ! Tell me about your favorite villains !

my top 5

Hello everyone ! Today I’m gonna share with you my top 5 books of 2015 ! I decided to go with the books I read in 2015, not just the one released this year !

In no particular order :

Vicious by V. E. Schwab.
I read it in March, I think. I absolutely loved it ! It was  so different from everything I had read before !

What I liked the most was the fact that I wasn’t able to tell who was the good guy and who was the villain.

a darker shade of magicA Darker Shade Of Magic by V. E. Schwab.

Yep, another book from this author. I really loved that one (again !) It was so original, fast paced and funny !

I love how V. E. Schwab creates intricate and fascinating universes and great characters.

THE FINAL EMPIREThe Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson.

I can also add The Well Of Ascension that I read in December. I was afraid of the Mistborn trilogy because they are humongous books. But once I started it, it was really hard to put it down ! It’s so original and well written !

An Ember In The Ashes

An Ember In The Ashes by Sabaa Tahir.

It’s her debut novel and it’s amazing ! The story is awesome, the writing style is really great, the characters are captivating !

I can’t wait for the sequel to be out !

Confess by Colleen Hoover

I haven’t loved it as much as Maybe Someday or Ugly love but it’s a really great story too.

On the plus side, the art is fabulous !

Here it is ! What’s your top 5 ?

october wrap up

Hello everyone ! It’s time to share with you my October wrap up ! I read a total of 4 books this month.

This is not a huge number of books, but they were all really great so I’m really happy with my reading month.

  • Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare for our shadowhunters readalong with Darren. It’s the final book in The Infernal Devices trilogy. It’s a reread but I loved as much as the first time I read it ! I gave it 5 stars, again.
  • A Darker Shade Of Magic by V.E. Schwab. I loved this book ! Seriously you need to pick it if you haven’t already read it !  The universe is so well built, and the characters are really well written, I loved everything in this book ! Obviously, I gave it 5 stars. And I can’t wait to get my hands on A Gathering Of Shadows which is its sequel.
  • The Perks Of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. It’s a really nice contemporary book. It’s easy to read and I got surprised by the ending. I gave it 5 stars.
  • An Ember In The Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. I loved it ! It’s, with ADSOM, one of my favorite reads for 2015. Everything’s great : the plot, the characters, the world. I also gave it 5 stars. The title for the second has been announced not so long ago. I need this book in my life already !

Have you read any of these ?
What is the book you enjoyed the most this month ?

An Ember In The AshesAn Ember In The Ashes
Author : Sabaa Tahir
Series : An Ember In The Ashes
Genres : Fantasy, Young Adult
Publication : April 28th 2015 by Razorbill

Goodreads’ synopsis : Laia is a slave.

Elias is a soldier.

Neither is free.

Under the Martial Empire, defiance is met with death. Those who do not vow their blood and bodies to the Emperor risk the execution of their loved ones and the destruction of all they hold dear.

It is in this brutal world, inspired by ancient Rome, that Laia lives with her grandparents and older brother. The family ekes out an existence in the Empire’s impoverished backstreets. They do not challenge the Empire. They’ve seen what happens to those who do.

But when Laia’s brother is arrested for treason, Laia is forced to make a decision. In exchange for help from rebels who promise to rescue her brother, she will risk her life to spy for them from within the Empire’s greatest military academy.

There, Laia meets Elias, the school’s finest soldier—and secretly, its most unwilling. Elias wants only to be free of the tyranny he’s being trained to enforce. He and Laia will soon realize that their destinies are intertwined—and that their choices will change the fate of the Empire itself.

polka dots bar smallThis book is one of my favorite reads for this year !

The story is told from two points of view.
We’ve got Laia, a scholar who is living with her grand parents. One day their house is raided because her brother is suspected of treason.
A mask kills her grand parents and takes her brother away. She then decides to join the Rebellion in order to save him.
Elias, on the other hand is a martial. More important, he is a blackcliff student, soon to be a Mask. But he can’t stand it and was going to escape.
We can say that both of them are tormented by their ghosts.

The dual POV is particularly brilliant and well thought. First, it’s 2 stories apart, and even then the change of POV allowed us to compare the lives of the 2 main characters. It was really interesting when their paths started to cross.

The plot is really strong and thick and it took my breath away, because there’s so much actions and not a lot of moments where you can breathe a little. It’s a perfectly well lead book, a great fantasy story.
This is an amazing story. There’s no way you can guess what’s gonna happen next. Moreover, the writing is utterly brilliant. It captivates you from page one.

You also cannot not love the two main characters. They show their flaws, their weaknesses, they are aware of them and are not afraid to show them. These characters feel so real.

I also liked the fact that there’s no cliche in this book. Even about Laia becoming stronger and more strong minded. We also can see the relationships evolving, and growing.

There are two kinds of guilt. The kind that’s a burden and the kind that gives you purpose. Let your guilt be your fuel. Let it remind you of who you want to be. Draw a line in your mind. Never cross it again. You have a soul. It’s damaged but it’s there. Don’t let them take it from you.

Characters :
– Laia, in the beginning is a coward. She is so scared but is also determined to save her brother. She feels responsible. That’s a thing I appreciated : she didn’t just wake up one morning stronger and badass. She endured a lot and we witnessed her strength being built up all along the book. She becomes more brave and cares for her friends.
– Elias, on this side, learns to follow his heart and his instincts. He tries his best not be an insensitive mask, like his cruel mother.
– Helene is the stereotype of the perfect mask. Cold, heartless, ready to follow any order. But it’s a shell because in the end she is not that bad.
– Izzi, in my opinion, is the bravest character. She is ready to deal with the repercussions of her friend’s acts. She wants to help her no matter what.
– The commandant is a really vicious and twist minded character.

I’m gonna stop there but there’s so much to tell. I could rave about this book for hours. An Ember In The Ashes captivated me and now I cannot wait to get my hands on its sequel.
Of course, needless to say that I highly recommend it to all the fantasy lovers !

5 stars

october tbr

Hello everyone ! I hope you all had a lovely week end ! Today I’ll talk about my October TBR, which you can see on the blurry picture above (yeah I tried something with my camera and well… it didn’t go as well as I thought !)
I have a very exciting TBR this month !

  • A Darker Shade Of Magic by V.E. Schwab. I had it on my TBR shelf for a few months now. But you know the deal : so many books, so little time ! But I am currently reading it and I can tell you it’s amazing ! Why have I waited so long ?!
  • An Ember In The Ashes by Sabaa Tahir is another exciting one ! I heard and read so many good things about it ! I can’t wait to finally be able to read it !
  • Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare is the final book in The Infernal Devices trilogy, which I’m re reading with Darren (from @Snazzlebooks on IG). I’m also pretty excited about this one because this is my favorite trilogy and this book is perfection !
  • The Perks Of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky.
  • The Gift by Cecelia Ahern (in French).

Last month I only read one contemporary book so this month I’ll try to read more of them.

I also want to read All Broke Down by Cora Carmack on my kindle !

That’s all ! What’s on your TBR for the month of October ?

Real neat blog awardHello everyone ! First of all I want to thank the lovely Cherry from readforevermore for nominating me !

The rules :

  • Thank and link the blogger who nominated you.
  • Answer the 7 questions the nomination has provided.
  • Nominate 7 other bloggers.
  • Create 7 questions for your nominees

What do you pay attention to the most when you’re reading ?

Oh that’s a really tough one ! I don’t really know … Probably the plot. If there’s a lack of consistency, for example, I’ll notice it. Though the most important thing is that I’m convinced by the story, and that I’m compelled to turn the page.

Based on just the cover alone, what book do you love the most?

This one is easier. I’m very fond of The Infernal Devices’ covers, the old ones. Especially Clockwork Princess. I think it’s the most gorgeous cover that I own. I may be biased, though, because it’s also my favorite trilogy.

What is one book that has had an impact on your life?

I may go with Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows. First because it was the end of an important era. It’s also the first book I read in English, easily enough. It made me realize that I could read more books in English. It wasn’t immediate, though. I bought the Trylle trilogy by Amanda Hocking like 2 years after reading the last Harry Potter book. But it was the beginning !

What book(s) are you most excited to read this year?

Granted, the year is in its last quarter. But I’m REALLY excited to read 3 books, 2 that I already own, 1 that I still need to buy.

a darker shade of magicA Darker Shade Of Magic, by V.E. Schwab.

I have wanted this book since it came out. But I waited some months before buying it. Don’t ask me why, I don’t really know the answer myself. Now it has been on my TBR shelf for a little more than 2 months, and I can’t wait to read it ! I totally picture myself cuddled in a blanket, drinking hot tea and reading this book.
It will probably be on my next TBR !

An Ember In The AshesAn Ember In  The Ashes by Sabaa Tahir.

I heard and read so many great things about this book ! Everyone is raving about it, on Instagram, booktube etc…
Of course I had to get it !
You’ll see this bad boy featured in my September haul.
I cannot wait to start it ! I know that there will be a sequel.

heir of fireHeir Of Fire by Sarah J. Maas

This is the one I still need to buy. I know, I know. Why haven’t I bought it already ? The answer is quite simple (and infuriating) : matching editions. This gorgeous green cover has only been available in paperback since the beginning of this month.
I can’t wait to read more about this incredible story ! I loved the first two books !

What are your top three most listened to songs ?

It always changes. But right now I would say :
– Shut Up + Dance by Walk The Moon
– Shatter Me by Lindsey Stirling
– Photograph by Ed Sheeran.

If you could give one piece of advice to people who don’t like reading, what would you say ?

Find a book you’re intrigued about. A book to movie adaptation amazed you ? Why not try the book ? If you show some interest toward a book, pick it up ! Give it a try ! I’m sure you won’t be disappointed !

What is one thing you wish people knew about you ?

I’m addicted to coffee. I love tea, but coffee is what I need in order to stay awake all day long.
