The Theory Of Everything
Directed by James Marsh
Released in January 2015
Synopsis : The Theory of Everything is a 2014 biographical romantic drama film which is set at Cambridge University and details the life of the theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking. It was directed by James Marsh and adapted by Anthony McCarten from the memoir Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen by Jane Hawking, which deals with her relationship with her ex-husband, theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking, his diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease or motor neurone disease), and his success in physics.
I really loved this movie ! Stephen Hawking is someone whose life has always been nagging my interest.
The casting is impeccable ! Eddie Redmayne is a great actor and he is a perfect Stephen. Full of hopes, his head full of theories everyone greater than the previous one.
Felicity Jones is Jane Hawking, Stephen’s wife. She is a solid into Stephen’s life. His anchor.
She must have suffered a lot, no matter how deep her love for her husband was.
I also got to find out that Remus Lupin (errr, I mean David Thewlis) was also in the movie, a phD cosmologist who becomes friend with his former student.
I have nothing negative to say about that movie, really. I found it perfect, beautiful and very sad. Witnessing how hard life can become, it’s gripping. It has been one of my mottos for the last year and half but I’m gonna say it once more : enjoy every tiny momen of your life.
If I stay
Directed by R.J. Cutler
Released in August 2014
Plot : Choices. Seventeen-year-old Mia is faced with some tough ones: Stay true to her first love—music—even if it means losing her boyfriend and leaving her family and friends behind?
Then one February morning Mia goes for a drive with her family, and in an instant, everything changes. Suddenly, all the choices are gone, except one. And it’s the only one that matters.
It’s by luck that I watched this movie. I turned on the TV one night, not wanting to read. And If I stay was here, waiting for me. Chloë Moretz is Mia, a teenage girl facing a terrible choice. The movie alternates between the present where Mia is in a coma, and has a out of body experience, and the past where we can follow with her love life and her passion for the cello. Mia is very close to her family. And she dearly loves Adam, a rocker whose band is starting to get famous.
I can’t say it’s a cute story because it’s a drama but I enjoyed it. I’m not the target obviously so I can’t say that this movie will make it to my top ten of the year but it was still enjoyable.
Chloë and Jamie are playing a great duet as Mia and Adam. I found their relationshipt touching, really !
Did it make me want to buy the book ? No. But I bet I would have enjoyed it, had I read it before.
The Darkest Minds
directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson
Released in August 2018.
Plot : When teens mysteriously develop powerful new abilities, they are declared a threat by the government and detained.
Sixteen-year-old Ruby, one of the most powerful young people anyone has encountered, escapes her camp and joins a group of runaway teens seeking safe haven.
I finished the book a few days before watching the movie so the story and its details, everything was still fresh in my mind.
I have to say, I was positively surprised by the movie ! It was very faithful to the book, at least until the last scene of the movie. I hope it doesn’t mean the second movie will become something too different from the book. We shall see !
I really enjoyed it, it was fast paced, cute and funny ! It was easy to follow and understand, even if you haven’t read the book ! The actors were well chosen. Amanda Stenberg, who plays Ruby, seems to be the new favorite when it comes to YA book adaptations, right ?
Also, Patrick Gibson plays a very disturbing Clancy, perfectly matching how I imagined him while reading the book !
To put it in a nutshell, I spent a great time watching this movie and I would totally recommend it !!

Hello lovelies ! Today I’m gonna talk about the Shadowhunters’ second season. When the first season was aired, I made a post for each episode. I decided to change that and make a post about a whole season. The first season was… well okay-ish ? I really enjoyed how the synopsis stayed faithful to the books but I had some issues with CGI and how some actors played, especially Dominic Sherwood and Kat McNamara.
The second season is better CGI wise. We can see that the budget has been raised and that’s really for the best ! The actors are also way more convincing ! Good CGI and better acting, it’s changing everything in my opinion !
The synopsis changed slightly from the story told by Cassandra Clare but it stays really faithful to the spirit and doesn’t change a lot to the main plot so that didn’t bother me at all !
Overall I really appreciated this season, and I hope the third is even better !
The Maze Runner
Directed by Wes Ball
Released in September 2014
It’s the second time I watched this movie. I first saw it in theatre when it was released, just a few weeks after reading the book.
For once, I think I preferred the movie to the book ! I had some issues with the book, the writing more specifically. Otherwise, I enjoyed the story. That’s why I prefer the movie.
It’s very faithful to the book and if you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know that’s very important to me !
The grievers were particularly scary ! It helped me not to scream to know when the frightening scene would happen hahaha !
The casting is amazing ! First, the main character Thomas is played by Dylan O’Brien that I adored in Teen Wolf ! I think he is one of the most promising actors from our generation ! Kaya Scodelario is playing Teresa and she plays her perfectly ! I am particularly fond of Newt, played by Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Minho, played by Ki Hong Lee ! Chuck, the younger, is played by Blake Cooper.
Overall I really enjoyed this movie ! Have you seen it ?
Directed by Christian Ditter
Released in October 2014
I am so happy I finally watched this movie. I read the book a few years ago, you can read my review here. Since I read it a long time ago, the story kind of blurred in my mind. And I think it’s for the best because the movie is slightly different than the book. The story stays the same, but with minor changes. For a start, the circumstances for Alex’s departure for the US aren’t the same. To be honest, it didn’t bother me at all ! I really loved this movie. The only “negative” thing I have to say is that we kind of lost their written relationship. Now, I understand that it’s almost impossible to put it into a movie and they still managed it for the key moments, though. But I kind of missed it nonetheless.
I have nothing negative to say about the cast, they were all great ! Rosie is played by Lily Collins that is an actress that I admire. She gives life perfectly to a confused Rosie, because life has been harsh on her.
Alex is played by the marvelous Sam Claflin. I really love that actor. Unforgettable Will Traynor in the fabulous Me Before You, I totally forgot Will and just saw Alex ! The rest of the cast was great too !
Katie is played by Lily laight and she is sooo adorable !
Overall I really enjoyed this movie !
Directed by Neil Burger
Released on March 21, 2014 (US)
I’ve already seen this movie when it was released but decided to watch it once again to write a review.
I’ve read the book written by Veronica Roth years ago and really liked it. So I was really eager to see the movie adaptation.
The movie is really faithful to the book, it’s great to see ! I really appreciated it. Of course it means that I didn’t get surprised while watching it but that’s okay ! Because it also means that every important scene was there.
Now let’s talk about the casting. I found the actors well chosen. Tris is played by Shailene Woodley. It’s a great actress. Theo James plays the badass Four. Aaah. Four. Perfect choice, really ! The chemistry between the two of them is real ! Caleb is played by Ansel Elgort. Jeannine is played by Kate Winslet and she was the perfect evil woman, manipulative, cold. I’ve always enjoyed Kate Winslet’s work and she didn’t disappoint at all in this movie !
The casting is really amazing. They all made a great job !
I really enjoyed watching this movie ! It’s action packed, the story is well explained and that’s all I was asking for !

Bridget Jones’s Baby
Directed by Sharon Maguire
Released September 16th 2016 (US/UK), October 5th (France).
I have to confess, I haven’t read the book before watching this movie. I wanted to, though. Last week end I went to the New Romance Festival hosted by Hugo Romance, in Bandol. They gave us the opportunity to attend the premiere in a lovely movie theater.
This movie is based on the third Bridget Jones’s book, written by Helen Fielding. It follows Bridget, single once again who has sex with Darcy and Jack on the same week. Of course, she gets pregnant. Of course, she doesn’t who the father is !
I have read the two previous books and adored them. They are so witty, funny and also managed to make me cry ugly tears, too. The previous movies were also great ones.
So I wasn’t really afraid for that one. I was pretty sure I would end loving it too ! And I was right, this movie was, in my opinion, the funniest ! Bridget always finds herself into so unbelievable situations that me burst out laughing ! And I wasn’t the only one, far from it ! The whole room was laughing so much !
This third movie introduces us to Jack, another suitor for our dear Bridget. Jack is Mark Darcy’s exact opposite and it was so funny to see them compete for the “best future dad” trophy !
I really enjoyed this movie, I highly recommend it !
Directed by Keishi Ōtomo
Released August 25th, 2012 in Japan
I wasn’t sure I would write this post. Rurôni (or Rurouni) Kenshin is one of my favorite animes. I have watched it many years ago and I still have to read the manga.
But since it’s a movie adaptation of a manga, I finallydecided to write about it !
So it’s the movie adaptation of a manga called Rurouni Kenshin written by Nobuhiro Watsuki.
This is the story of a samourai, leaving a battlefield after a victory. He decides to give up this life, to change his name, becoming Himura Kenshin. He still wears a sword, but it’s a reverse blade.
He crosses path with Kamiya Kaoru, a dojo’s leader. She mistakes him for another person. Meanwhile, a killer usurping Kenshin’s old identity is leaving a trail of corpses behind him.
I was gladly surprised to see how much the actors were looking alike the manga’s characters. It’s really astonishing !
The story is really faithful to the manga ! They made a really aesthetic movie, very beautiful.
The movie is fast paced and even if you haven’t read the manga or watched the anime, it’s easy to understand the background story.
So if you want to watch a gorgeous samouraï movie, it’s the perfect pick !
Sapphire Blue (Saphirblau)
Directed by Felix Fuchssteiner and Katharina Schöde
Released in August 2014
This is the movie adaptation of Kerstin Gier’s Sapphire Blue, second book in the Precious Stones trilogy.
I watched the first movie last year, you can read my review here . I read the books years ago so I don’t remember all the little details or in which book it happened. But that’s okay !
I really enjoyed this movie. Let’s be honest, it’s far from being the movie of the year. But it doesn’t have the pretentiousness to be. It’s a rather great adaptation of a nice book !
In this sequel, Gwen (Maria Ehrich) is trying to find her role in all this time travel madness. She is desperately falling for her time travel partner, Gideon (Jannis Niewöhner). She also wants to trust Paul and Lucy, time travelers who eloped many years ago.
It seems a very faithful screen adaptation, for what I recall of the book. I believe there were some events that are in the third book but it was very coherent so it’s not an issue, in my opinion.
I was a little disappointed with Xemerius’ look but I’m sure they did the best they could. It’s not a blockbuster so the CGI budget mustn’t be that big haha !
I noticed one thing that has been changed : the song Gwen sang ! I was so happy when she started singing The Time Warp from A Rocky Horror Picture Show !
I loved the outfits they had to wear for their travels in the pasts. Gwen’s dress with the ribbons was magnificent !
Its ends on a cliffhanger somehow. I’m glad I’ve read the books so I know what happens next (at least for the biggest things haha).
If what I’ve found on the internet is true then Emerald Green, the third and final movie is set to be released in June. In German. So maybe it will be available for the end of the year in French !
What about you ? Have you seen it ? Did you like it ?
