The Fall of fiveThe Fall Of Five
Author : Pittacus Lore
Series : Lorien Legacies
Genres : Science Fiction, Young Adult
Publication : August 28th 2013 by Harper (first published January 1st 2013)

This is the fourth book in the Lorien Legacies series. If you haven’t read the previous book, this review will spoil you.

Goodreads’ synopsis : John Smith—Number Four—thought that things would change once the Garde found each other. They would stop running. They would fight the Mogadorians. And they would win.

But he was wrong. After facing off with the Mogadorian ruler and almost being annihilated, the Garde know they are drastically unprepared and hopelessly outgunned. Now they’re hiding out in Nine’s Chicago penthouse, trying to figure out their next move.

The six of them are powerful, but they’re not strong enough yet to take on an entire army—even with the return of an old ally. To defeat their enemy, the Garde must master their Legacies and learn to work together as a team. More importantly, they’ll have to discover the truth about the Elders and their plan for the Loric survivors.

And when the Garde receive a sign from Number Five—a crop circle in the shape of a Loric symbol—they know they are so close to being reunited. But could it be a trap? Time is running out, and the only thing they know for certain is that they have to get to Five before it’s too late.

The Garde may have lost battles, but they will not lose this war.

I wasn’t totally convinced by this book.
Let’s start with what I enjoyed, first.
I loved to read about Sam. I am more than happy for him. So many things are happening, but these are good things.
Also, in this book, the multiple POV wasn’t as confusing as in the previous book. So that time around, it didn’t bother me, it was quite the opposite. It brought a deepness to the story, because we got to see it from different perspectives.
I also enjoyed Marina/Eight relationship. They are so cute together !

There’s a mystery surrounding Ella’s state, and I can’t wait to read more about it in the next book.

There’s no set futures, only the one we make.

I am also glad that there’s no love triangle between Six/John/Sarah (or should I say a love quatuor or whatever the right word is ? haha!) This one felt so unnecessary !

The characters’ development is well done, though. Especially for Sarah and Sam. Sarah is becoming a badass human warrior ! That was nice to witness !

But that was not enough to make me really like this book.
I think this book was more of an introduction to the next one. There were moments that I found useless to the story line. I believe the following book will be more entertaining and surprising than this one.
The major plot twist I saw coming from the very beginning. It was so obvious !

Overall, I still enjoyed it.

The Rise of Nine is the third book in the Lorien Legacies series. This review will spoil you if you haven’t read the previous books.

Goodreads’ synopsis : Until the day I met John Smith, Number Four, I’d been on the run alone, hiding and fighting to stay alive.

Together, we are much more powerful. But it could only last so long before we had to separate to find the others. . . .

I went to Spain to find Seven, and I found even more, including a tenth member of the Garde who escaped from Lorien alive. Ella is younger than the rest of us, but just as brave. Now we’re looking for the others—including John.

But so are they.

They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They caught me in New York—but I escaped.
I am Number Six.
They want to finish what they started.

But they’ll have to fight us first.

A wise man once told me that only by leaving someone good can you meet someone better.

In this book, Four and Nine are obviously teaming up and kind of trying to find a way to free Sam and to find the others members of the Garde.
Meanwhile, Six, Marina and Ella are trying to find eight, helped by Crayton.
We also learn some major things. First, it’s about Sarah. It was something I suspected.
Moreover, Setrakus Râ is an imminent threat.
Things get more and more complicated because they’re trying to avoid the Mogadorians and the US government.

Characters :
– John is still a little too whiny, in my opinion. But he also knows what he wants. He is such a loyal friend.
– Nine is the reckless one. I think he will be a rather important character in the next books.
– Six is always the badass one. I really like her character !
– Marina is a little weak but doing her best to help her comrades.
– Ella is so adorable. I think she’s the cute character, in their team.
– Eight is a really interesting character. I loved how he managed to stay hidden and worshiped.

I really like the fact that they all team up in the end of the book. Finally. I think the next book will be full of badass moments, and so action packed.
This one was already a page turner, you barely have the time to take a deep breath that another struggle, another battle is here. But there are funny moments too and I really enjoyed it !

I didn’t like the changes of POV. Sometimes I wasn’t able to tell who was talking, Six or Marina. That bothered me a lot.
I wish we could have read about Sam, too. We don’t know a single thing about how he is. Is he still alive, or already dead ?

Anyway I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to buy the next one !
