| MEMES | TOP TEN TUESDAY – 10 BOOKS TO GET IN THE FALL MOOD

top-ten-tuesdayHello lovelies !!! How are you ? It’s that time again ! Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke And The Bookish.

Today’s theme is Halloween related freebie. I decided to list 10 books to get in the Fall mood.

A good contemporary/romance book. Picture yourself wrapped in a comfy blanket, a mug of hot tea not too far and you, reading a good book. After by Anna Todd, Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover, Rule by Jay Crownover or Me Before You by Jojo Moyes are good examples !

Or a good fantasy book ! During the Fall season (which is my favorite) I can easily switch between contemporary and fantasy. Shadow And Bone by Leigh Bardugo, Queen Of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas, A Darker Shade Of Magic by V. E. Schwab or Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare are great choices !

As for these two … I’m currently reading The Darkest Magic by Morgan Rhodes. It’s the perfect fantasy book, I really enjoy reading it while sipping tea !
The Air He Breathes by Brittainy C. Cherry is one of the books I plan on reading next !

That’s it ! What are the books that get you in the Fall mood ?

| MEMES | TOP TEN TUESDAY – TOP TEN FAVORITE VILLAINS IN BOOKS

top-ten-tuesday

Hello lovelies ! It’s that time again ! Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke And The Bookish !

This week’s theme is : top ten favorite villains !

Beware this post contains spoilers, so if you haven’t read the books featured on the pictures, maybe skip this post !

The first six villains are the ones that I really like and can’t manage to hate haha ! First is obviously The Darkling from The Grisha trilogy ! It’s such a complex character, he is dark, twisted and yet I can’t help but really like him. There’s also Sebastian Morgensten from The Mortal Instruments series. This guy is pure evil but yet … There’s also Blake from the Lux series, even though he is less appealing than the two previous ones !

Holland from the Shades Of Magic series is another perfect example ! There’s also Dimitri from the Vampire Academy series, when he is a strigoĂŻ. And finally, Seth from the Covenant series when he is driven by his need of power.

These 6 villains I can’t help but love them or care deeply for them ! Now for the following ones, it’s different : I love to hate them ! The perfect villains you want to strangle personally, you know ?

In no particular order : Thiago from the Daughter Of Smoke And Bone series, The Commandand from An Ember In The Ashes, the King Of Adarlan from Throne Of Glass series and finally Voldemort from Harry Potter ! These 4 villains are creepy and have such a twisted mind !

That’s it ! Tell me about your favorite villains !

| BOOK REVIEW | SHADOW AND BONE BY LEIGH BARDUGO

Shadow And BoneShadow And Bone
Author : Leigh Bardugo
Series : The Grisha
Genres : Fantasy, Paranormal, Young Adult
Publication : May 7th 2013 by Square Fish (first published June 5th 2012)

Synopsis : Alina Starkov doesn’t expect much from life. Orphaned by the Border Wars, she is sure of only one thing: her best friend, Mal–and her inconvenient crush on him. Until the day their army regiment enters the Fold, a swath of unnatural darkness crawling with monsters. When their convoy is attacked and Mal is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power not even she knew existed.

Ripped from everything she knows, Alina is taken to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling. With Alina’s extraordinary power in his arsenal, he believes they can finally destory the Fold. Now Alina must find a way to master her untamed gift and somehow fit into her new life without Mal by her side. But nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. As the threat to the kingdom mounts and her dangerous attraction to the Darkling grows, Alina will uncover a secret that could tear her heart–and her country–in two.

I have to say, I wasn’t really eager to read this trilogy. I know it’s stupid but the covers weren’t that appealing. So I didn’t bother reading the synopsis. But I decided to read the duology set in the Grisha world and I wanted to read this trilogy before. And I’m really glad I picked this book up !

Plot

The Grisha universe is really interesting ! It’s inspired by the Russian folklore, culture, landscape and language. It’s really fascinating ! The world building is spectacular and it was very easy to picture everything ! And finally the book cover art makes sense !
The story is really gripping, even though the beginning was a little slow. But it was necessary to put the story into motion.
The story is intricate, with great plot twists !

The moment our lips met, I knew with pure and piercing certainty that I would have waited for him forever.

The only negative thing is that I saw the love triangle coming very early in the story. But it didn’t really bother me.
Another thing is how Mal only saw Aline when she became valuable.

The Grisha organization captivated me. At first I had to go and check the description page very often but that’s okay !
The author created an amazing army system ! Everything is so well thought !

This book was so fast paced, witty, annoying and definitely gripping !

The problem with wanting,” he whispered, his mouth trailing along my jaw until it hovered over my lips, “is that it makes us weak.

Characters

  • Alina annoyed me at times. She was heels over head for Mal who wasn’t seeing her. She was so weak, so plain and didn’t really want her life to change. She’s got this amazing opportunity to become someone very important and all she can think about is Mal, Mal not answering her letters.
But a few weeks at the little Palace finally took its toll : she changed, mature and grew more confident.
  • Mal is far from being a swoon worthy character in this book. He doesn’t see Alina until she gets more value. And then he gets jealous because someone else is interested by her !
But his character is really intriguing, he is a great tracker, too good for his own good.
  • The Darkling quickly won my heart ! He is so mysterious, and kind to Alina. He takes care of her.He is sweet and clever and seems so innocent ! But you can totally sense from the beginning that he is hiding something, that he is not totally honest.
  • Baghra is an amazing and complex character. She is so strong minded, clever and powerful, despite her age. And the plot twist concerning her identity blew me away !

The Darkling slumped back in his chair. “Fine,” he said with a weary shrug. “Make me your villain.”

5 stars

Overall I really LOVED this book, and recommend it to every fantasy lover !

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Hello everyone ! Today I’m bringing you my May book haul ! I am trying to keep my TBR under 40 books… Which means that I’m trying my best to be reasonable… This month I went a little crazy when it came to book buying… my TBR is more around the 50 books now haha. physical copies :

  • Comme Convenu by Laurel is a French comic I preordered many months ago !
  • Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan. The French publisher, Hugo New Romance kindly sent it to me ! I cannot wait to read this one !
  • The Islanders vol.2 by Katherine Applegate
  • Shadow And Bone by Leigh Bardugo. I heard so many great things about this series ! I can’t wait to dive into the Grisha universe !
  • Siege And Storm which is the second book in the Grisha trilogy !

E book :

I bought the Tales From The Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan, Maureen Johnson & Robin Wasserman. I actually read it in May too. My review will be up this week, hopefully haha !

I bought Shadow And Bone and Siege And Storm via BookoutletFR, on Amazon. I am so GLAD there’s a way for us Frenchies to buy from BookOutlet !! But at the moment their Amazon shop is closed… I hope it won’t last long !

That’s it ! Not bad for a haul, right ?! Hopefully I’ll buy less book in June !
