As the threat to the kingdom mounts and her dangerous attraction to the Darkling grows, Alina will uncover a secret that could tear her heart–and her country–in two.

I have to say, I wasn’t really eager to read this trilogy. I know it’s stupid but the covers weren’t that appealing. So I didn’t bother reading the synopsis. But I decided to read the duology set in the Grisha world and I wanted to read this trilogy before. And I’m really glad I picked this book up !

Plot

The Grisha universe is really interesting ! It’s inspired by the Russian folklore, culture, landscape and language. It’s really fascinating ! The world building is spectacular and it was very easy to picture everything ! And finally the book cover art makes sense !
The story is really gripping, even though the beginning was a little slow. But it was necessary to put the story into motion.
The story is intricate, with great plot twists !

The moment our lips met, I knew with pure and piercing certainty that I would have waited for him forever.

The only negative thing is that I saw the love triangle coming very early in the story. But it didn’t really bother me.
Another thing is how Mal only saw Aline when she became valuable.

The Grisha organization captivated me. At first I had to go and check the description page very often but that’s okay !
The author created an amazing army system ! Everything is so well thought !

This book was so fast paced, witty, annoying and definitely gripping !

The problem with wanting,” he whispered, his mouth trailing along my jaw until it hovered over my lips, “is that it makes us weak.

Characters

  • Alina annoyed me at times. She was heels over head for Mal who wasn’t seeing her. She was so weak, so plain and didn’t really want her life to change. She’s got this amazing opportunity to become someone very important and all she can think about is Mal, Mal not answering her letters.
But a few weeks at the little Palace finally took its toll : she changed, mature and grew more confident.
  • Mal is far from being a swoon worthy character in this book. He doesn’t see Alina until she gets more value. And then he gets jealous because someone else is interested by her !
But his character is really intriguing, he is a great tracker, too good for his own good.
  • The Darkling quickly won my heart ! He is so mysterious, and kind to Alina. He takes care of her.He is sweet and clever and seems so innocent ! But you can totally sense from the beginning that he is hiding something, that he is not totally honest.
  • Baghra is an amazing and complex character. She is so strong minded, clever and powerful, despite her age. And the plot twist concerning her identity blew me away !

The Darkling slumped back in his chair. “Fine,” he said with a weary shrug. “Make me your villain.”

5 stars

Overall I really LOVED this book, and recommend it to every fantasy lover !

Don’t miss their unforgettable final chapter…

polka dots bar small

It has been a while since I read the previous book. I really love the Bloodlines series ! I was actually a little afraid to read this book. I heard and read mixed reviews about this one and I wanted things to be wrapped nicely, you know ?

Plot

I really enjoyed it, to be honest ! It’s far from being the best one in the series but it’s still a good book.
In my opinion, it lacked the epic battle scenes I got used to in the previous books.
But I still enjoyed it, I think it wrapped the story very nicely ! At the beginning things were really slow but once the plot got settled, it was more fast paced.
Nonetheless, I found the “quest” to find Jill a little too easy, as if it was rushed.

Being with you is the best thing that’s ever happened to me, the one perfect decision I’ve made in a lifetime of fumbling and poor judgment. I’d go through it all again to be by your side. Never doubt that. Never doubt how I feel about you.

I still enjoyed the story, the humor and Sydrian of course ! Their relationship is really an amazing one ! They take care of each other in a really beautiful way. I also enjoyed reading about Rose and Dimitri !
I also have to say that some plot twists totally surprised me !

The ending was cheesy but yet perfect !

My wife, ladies and gentlemen. Beauty, brains, and now brawn.

I hope it’s not the last time we get to read about the Vampire Academy ! I would really like to read more about this amazing universe !

Characters

  • Sydney is such an amazing character ! She is the one that has grown the most, she has changed so much ! She hated the vampires so much, she was disgusted by them, and now she is married to one !
I really like her ! She is smart, funny AND addicted to coffee !
  • Adrian also changed a lot. He was so careless at the beginning of the series (and in Vampire Academy). Now he tries his best not to hurt Sydney. He acts as a responsible young man.
  • Eddie has finally a chance to save the girl he’s in love with.

But who am I to judge? We’re all fighting our own battles, the best way we can.

A Book Of Spirits And ThievesA Book Of Spirits And Thieves
Author : Morgan Rhodes
Series : Spirits And Thieves
Genres : Fantasy, Young Adult
Publication : June 23rd 2015 by Razorbill

Goodreads’ synopsis : Modern-day sisters discover deadly ancient magic in book 1 of this Falling Kingdoms spin-off series!

Worlds collide in this suspenseful, page-turning Falling Kingdoms spin-off series, which explores a whole new side of Mytica—and an even darker version of its magic.

Crystal Hatcher, Modern-day Toronto: It’s a normal afternoon in her mother’s antique bookshop when Crys witnesses the unthinkable: her little sister Becca collapses into a coma after becoming mesmerized by a mysterious book written in an unrecognizable language.

Maddox Corso, Ancient Mytica: Maddox Corso doesn’t think much of it when he spots an unfamiliar girl in his small village. Until, that is, he realizes that she is a spirit, and he is the only one who can see or hear her. Her name is Becca Hatcher, and she needs Maddox to help get her home.

Farrell Grayson, Modern-day Toronto: Rich and aimless Farrell Grayson is thrilled when the mysterious leader of the ultra-secret Hawkspear Society invites him into the fold. But when he learns exactly what he has to do to prove himself, Farrell starts to question everything he thought he knew about family, loyalty, and himself….

Fate has brought these young people together, but ancient magic threatens to rip them apart.

polka dots bar small

I’m gonna start this review by saying this : I wasn’t in the best conditions to fully enjoy this book. Not that I didn’t enjoy it, but I would probably have liked it more.

Plot

This story takes place in two parallel universes.
Crystal “Crys” Hatcher is living in a modern-day Toronto. She is living with her mother and her sister Becca.
The other universe is our well-known (well, if you’ve read Falling Kingdoms !) Mytica, where Maddox is living, forced to obey his stepfather, Livius.

When Becca lays her hands on a particular book, her mind is sent to Mytica, while her body goes catatonic in her world.

As I said, I wasn’t in my usual state while reading it. That’s probably why it took me a while to feel invested in the story.
But, the plot is really really interesting ! It mixes two universes, space and maybe time travel and mystery. The conspiracy around the Hawkspear society is highly interesting ! For the most part of this book, we didn’t learn a lot about it and his powerful leader. That’s what hooked me ! I wanted to learn everything I could about it !

I loved the different POV. It’s like we’ve got two stories inside of one book. Crys’ POV is really interesting. It was my favorite one. She is dealing with so much in such a short period. And she is facing it with such maturity !
Maddox’ POV is the only one when it comes to Mytica. It was funny and interesting to see the past of Mytica !
Farrell’s POV is rich in character’s evolution. It’s the dark side of this story ! And I really can’t hep but like him !

So much is happening in this book ! It’s fast paced and fascinating ! I also had a lot of fun trying to see any connections with the Mytica from the Falling Kingdoms’ era.

I can’t wait for the second book to be released ! I am relieved there are only a few weeks before its release !

Tears aren’t just for babies. They’re proof that you feel something and aren’t afraid to show it. It’s those that won’t ever allow themselves to cry that are the weak ones.

Although it took me time to get into the story, I immediately liked Crys. She is so fierce, stubborn and cunning ! Plus she loves photography. She really is a great character.
Her sister seems weaker but revealed her strength when she had to. She helped Maddox when he was in need for a friend.

Characters

– Crystal is such a nice and great character. She does whatever she has to. She is astonishingly mature for her age.
– Maddox is such a good child. He’s in for a hell of a journey ! He wasn’t expecting to be followed by the ghost of a lovely girl and to find out that he was important and powerful.
– Farrell is highly interesting ! It may be the most interesting character in my opinion ! He is so complex ! We get to see his evolution. He gets darker and loses his morality and isn’t aware of it at all. The only thing that isn’t changing is that he feels the need to protect his brother.

I want to be respected. I want to be powerful. And yes, I want to be special. I want to leave a mark on this world so no one forgets who I was.

I want to be respected. I want to be powerful. And yes, I want to be special. I want to leave a mark on this world so no one forgets who I was.

4 stars

Overall I really enjoyed this book ! It’s a great and original fantasy read !

| BOOK REVIEW | PURE BY JENNIFER L. ARMENTROUT

Fire flower

Pure
Author : Jennifer L. Armentrout
Series: Covenant
Genres : Fantasy, Paranormal Romance, Young Adult
Publication : April 3rd 2012 by Spencer Hill Press

Pure is the second book in the covenant series. This review will spoil you if you haven’t read Half-blood.

Goodread’s synopsis : There is need. And then there is Fate. Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn’t exactly awesome–especially when Alexandria’s other half is everywhere she goes. Seth’s in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom–so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do–and sacrifice–for her. When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies–lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon–and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn’t blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude–or killing her. When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.

polka dots bar small

Oh man did I love this book ! This review will be shorter than usual, I forgot to write down my thoughts before reading its sequel…

You’ll become the center of someone’s world one day. And he’ll be the luckiest son of a bitch on this earth.

Plot :

We’re back with Alex at the Covenant. In this sequel, the pace is still fast. We find again a witty Alex and her banters with Seth are really fun !
A part of the story is happening in the New York Covenant, Alex has to be present to the council, because of what happened with her mother.

The plot gets thicker, darker and more twisted.
The end of the book is pretty surprising ! The gods are starting to interfere with the Pures and Half-Bloods matters.
Moreover, the mystery around the torch tattoo is really interesting ! It sounds like something that will be more important in the sequel !

Characters :

I love how the characters are evolving.
– Alex is so feisty, funny and a hell of a kick ass character ! She is so strong, and endures a lot. She is a little more whiny in this book, but it’s easily understandable. She is trying her best to do what’s right. She doesn’t trust her bond with Seth. She is so afraid to lose herself in the process.
– Aiden is a true gentleman. He does whatever it takes to protect Alex. Even risking his own life.
– Seth is a really interesting character. I don’t know what to think of him. He seems to care a lot for Alex and yet he seems to hide so many things to her.
– Marcus is getting more important in this book. He also cares for Alex, even though he doesn’t show it a lot.

I really enjoyed watching the relationship being built between Alex and Seth. And the “sort of” love triangle isn’t bothering me at all.

Or did you wake up on the wrong side of stupid this morning?

The next book promises to be really interesting ! This one managed to make me laugh, snort and cry ! It’s an emotional roller-coaster !

half bloodHalf-Blood
Author : Jennifer L. ArmentroutSeries : Covenant
Genres : Young Adult, Fantasy, Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy
Publication :October 18th 2011 by Spencer Hill Press

Goodreads’ synopsis : The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi pure bloods have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals–well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.

Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden. Unfortunately, she’s crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn’t her biggest problem–staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is.

If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

polka dots bar small

Half-Blood is the first book in the Covenant series.

It starts with Alex, a half-blood trying to survive on her own. Daimons are a real threat ; they want to drain her from her blood, more accurately the aether in her blood.
While facing an attack, she is saved by Sentinels. They get her back to the Covenant, where she belongs.
She has fled with her mother and now she’ll have to face the consequences.
A sentinel (and a Pure) called Aiden decides to train her so she can catch up with her fellows students.

I really enjoyed this book ! It was a really quick read !
We’ve got a really interesting universe in this book. It follows gods’ descendants : the Hematoi (called Pures) and the half-bloods, less considered than the pures. Half-bloods can either become slaves (their free will is suppressed) or warriors, guards or sentinels for the luckiest.

The whole story reminded me a lot of Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead :
– Half-blood = dhampir
– Hematoi = moroï
– Daimon = strigoï
– Alex ran away from the Covenant, just like Rose
– let’s not forget a forbidden love story

These similarities didn’t bother me at all, though !

Okay. I’m ready to move onto something else, like practicing with knives or defense against the dark arts. Cool things.”
“Did you just quote Harry Potter?

The plot :
It’s not the most original plot, nor the most complicated or surprising. But it does its job. It’s entertaining, funny and I had a hard time putting it down.
Moreover, even though one of the two major plot twists was pretty predictable, the other one was unexpected !

Characters :
– Alex : I really liked her character ! She is talented, smart and witty ! And so strong-minded. A great female lead character.
– Aiden is the perfect Sentinel, dedicated to his duty. They have things in common with Alex ! I really like him.
– Caleb is a nice sidekick. Alex’s best friend, I hope he’ll have a more important role in the sequel.
– Seth is the Apollyon. I found him insufferable. He is so used to everyone being afraid of him ! He is also used to always get what he wants. He is too self confident ! I found it difficult to truly appreciate him, but the ending started to change my mind.

Need covers itself with love, but need… need is never love. Always beware of the one who needs you. There is always a want behind a need, you see.

The special bond Alex and Seth share is something I’m really eager to read about !

That’s all ! I hope to be able to pick Pure in a really near future !!

| BOOK REVIEW | CITY OF ASHES BY CASSANDRA CLARE

city of ashesCITY OF ASHES

Author : Cassandra Clare
Series : The Mortal Instruments
Genres : Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Young Adult
Publication : July 7th 2008 by Walker Childrens Paperbacks (first published March 28th 2008)

City of Ashes is the second book in The Mortal Instruments series. If you haven’t read the first book, this review may spoil you.

Goodreads’ synopsis : Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what’s normal when you’re a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who’s becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn’t ready to let her go — especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary’s only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil — and also her father.

To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings — and if he is, what is he trying to do? When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace. How can Clary stop Valentine if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father?

polka dots bar small

This second book is darker than City Of Bones. A lot of suspicion is surrounding Jace. It’s a dark time for him. His “foster” family is doubting him, the father he once admired turned out to be a psychopath, and on top of that the Inquisitor is determined to make his life a living hell.
We can see Jace’s shell cracking : when it comes to his father and when it comes to his sister, that he doesn’t love as he should.
In this book, we learn more about Valentine’s schemes. We also learn about Jace and Clary’s special abilities.

I don’t want to be a man,” said Jace. “I want to be an angst-ridden teenager who can’t confront his own inner demons and takes it out verbally on other people instead.

This book is so well balanced between action and what I’m gonna call “drama” ! The plot thickens, and there are numerous new characters that seems to have important roles in a near future. Even as a reread, I found the plot pretty amazing.
The comic relief is also something I appreciated ! Every time the mood was getting darker, a witty reply, or a funny stuff happened, which cooled down the situation.

I’m pure at heart. It repels the dirt.

Another thing I enjoyed is seeing the hints I missed the first time I read it.

Characters :
– Clary is trying her best not to hurt Simon. But it’s an impossible task. I love her fierceness and her stubbornness ! She is amazing and won’t hesitate to dive head first into danger !
– Jace : I love that we get to see his vulnerability. It reminds us that although being a kickass shadowhunter, he is also a teen. A teen in need for love, for a family.
– Simon is the comic relief. Well, at least a part of it. But in this book, he suffered a lot. I love Simon, he is such a faithful character. He is funny, appealing and so cute ! What he had to go through wasn’t easy at all. Jace and Clary aren’t the only ones to suffer.
– Alec is at a critical moment in his life. He likes Magnus but isn’t totally ready to come out yet. He is slowly getting to know himself and what he truly wants. And he is much more pleasant.
– Maia is a newly introduced character and a pretty interesting one (especially knowing what happens to her in the next books!). Though I didn’t appreciate how whiny she can be at times.

As long as there was coffee in the world, how bad could things be?

In a few words, let’s say that I can wait to read City Of Glass next month !

| BOOK REVIEW | CENTER OF MAGIC BY J.S. FIELDS

CENTER OF MAGICCenter Of Magic
Author : J. S. FieldsSeries : The Source series
Genres : Young Adult, Fantasy
Publication : October 15th 2015 (self published)

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Goodreads’ synopsis : Thirty years ago a spell was cast that exploded the magic in those who wielded the power and millions were consumed by fire. Countries and Governments that had grown dependent on wizards for the new arms race were left floundering and confused. Tensions rose and bled into World War III, and the world was broken by the global bombardment. Magic was thought lost forever.

Reese, a young girl of only fifteen, knows the stories and the lore. She has grown comfortable with life in the miles of caverns that make up Mammoth Cave. When Tereo, a wise traveler, arrives to weave a tale of history and fact, the pulse inside her screams out that she is meant for more. Tereo knows that Reese is the only one that can help him perform an unimaginable task. Together, along with her cousin Erik and her friend, Emily, the ragtag team set off to move the Center of Magic – and stop the gathering evil from destroying the final spark.

Dangers, both magical and mundane assault them from all sides. New faces and allies find them while betrayal lurks close. It is a journey of fantastical determination, one that sweeps this group into heights none could dream of before and into the very depths of despair.

Pulling from our own past and myths, this is an alternative history that combines lore, legend, current fiction and popular mythos to create a tale unlike any you’ve read before.

polka dots bar small

I enjoyed this book. The plot is pretty interesting. Danger, betrayal, feelings, you can find all of these in this book ! It’s an epic quest, where they will learn who they really are.
I really like the idea that a wizard/sorcerer needs a Source. I’ve never read a book where the warlock would need a Source next to him in order to throw a spell ! It’s unique and really interesting.

I also really enjoyed the characters.
– Reese is a really nice main character. She can act like a little princess sometimes, but it only adds to her charm.
– Emily may be my favorite character. I think she is the strongest, because she doesn’t have any magical power and yet she has followed them. In my opinion, she is really badass!

I really like their posse. In a way, it made me think of some video games. The sorcerer, the healer, the wise man …
They all have a nice development throughout the book.

They were also things that I didn’t like.
First, the characters’ inner thoughts. Sometimes, I felt like it was too out of the blue. Maybe it was made on purpose, but it bothered me at times.
I also would have liked to read more about the world. I hope we will read more about it in the sequel !

The cliffhanger was good, I wasn’t expecting it at all ! I will probably read the sequel, I wanna what will happen to these lovely characters !

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book ! It’s a quick read, with an original vision of the magical world !

| BOOK REVIEW | THE DISTANCE BETWEEN US BY KASIE WEST

The distance between usThe Distance Between Us
Author : Kasie West
Genres : Contemporary, Young Adult
Publication : July 2013 by Harper Teen

Goodread’s synopsis : Seventeen-year-old Caymen Meyers studies the rich like her own personal science experiment, and after years of observation she’s pretty sure they’re only good for one thing—spending money on useless stuff, like the porcelain dolls in her mother’s shop.

So when Xander Spence walks into the store to pick up a doll for his grandmother, it only takes one glance for Caymen to figure out he’s oozing rich. Despite his charming ways and that he’s one of the first people who actually gets her, she’s smart enough to know his interest won’t last. Because if there’s one thing she’s learned from her mother’s warnings, it’s that the rich have a short attention span. But Xander keeps coming around, despite her best efforts to scare him off. And much to her dismay, she’s beginning to enjoy his company.

She knows her mom can’t find out—she wouldn’t approve. She’d much rather Caymen hang out with the local rocker who hasn’t been raised by money. But just when Xander’s attention and loyalty are about to convince Caymen that being rich isn’t a character flaw, she finds out that money is a much bigger part of their relationship than she’d ever realized. And that Xander’s not the only one she should’ve been worried about.

polka dots bar smallI really really enjoyed this book ! I read it in 24 hours, I couldn’t put it down !

Feelings can be the most costly thing in the universe.

Caymen Meyers is living with her mother in a tiny apartment, above their dolls shop. She is the perfect daughter. She helps her mother at the shop and isn’t planning on going to college the next year because she wants to help full time.
Her bestfriend is Skye. Skye is the original one. She is dating a rock guitarist, Toad. Skye wants Caymen to date Mason, the band’s singer.
But then, she meets Xander. He is rich, he is cool. Let’s summarize by : they live in different worlds. Xander’s family is rich and famous. On the contrary, Caymen is poor. Her father abandoned her mother when he learned she was pregnant. Her mother’s parents disowned her so Caymen doesn’t know them. She only has her mother.
So everything is separating her from Xander. But she kind of appreciates him. And he is stubborn. He manages to make her accept his presence.

I really like this story. It’s cute, and there’s more than just a complicated romance. Caymen is starting to hide things from her mother. And her mother is doing the same. This book shows how honesty is important in any relationship. Their mutual lies are keeping them away.

Characters :
– Caymen is like the perfect daughter until she meets Xander : honest, loyal. Her relationship with isn’t rely healthy in the beginning.
– Xander is the perfect gentleman. He deeply cares for Caymen. He is rich, but isn’t acting like a spoiled child at all.
– Skye is a great best friend. Always there when needed.
– Mason could have been the perfect match for Caymen, if it weren’t for Xander. He is nice, cool and is from her world, the mundane’s world.

There are a few things that I didn’t really like :
First, the “toilet paper” scene that totally seemed out of the blue. It felt like the author needed a reason for the girls to be at Xander’s house. The scene inside the house I really liked, let’s be clear. It was a great moment.
Secondly, I wished we had more informations about Skye, and Toad. I know that they aren’t the main characters, but it would have added some depth to the story, in my opinion.

4 stars

| BOOK REVIEW | CLOCKWORK PRINCE BY CASSANDRA CLARE

Clockwork PrinceClockwork Prince
Author : Cassandra Clare
Series : The Infernal Devices
Genres : Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Young Adult
Publication : December 2011 by Simon & Schuster

This is the second book in a trilogy. This review will spoil you if you haven’t read the previous book.

Goodread’s synopsis : In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street—and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa’s powers for his own dark ends.

With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister’s war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move—and that one of their own has betrayed them.

Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, but her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will—the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?

As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.

It was books that made me feel that perhaps I was not completely alone. They could be honest with me, and I with them.

In this book, we see more. More of the country (Shire), more betrayal and also more feelings.
While Tessa is trying to figure out Will’s behavior, she slowly but surely gets closer to Jem. Jem who is always here for her.
Charlotte and Henry are finally honest toward each other regarding their feelings.

A new character appears : Gideon Lightwood. He is different from his brother Gabriel. He analyses the situation and doesn’t trust his father totally.

The plot is really great, in my opinion. The fact that Mortmain is always a step ahead, that he had all this planned for years ! Even if we don’t get to see him in this book, his presence is everywhere.
Also we get a hint about what will happen next, but I noticed that because I already read the whole trilogy.

It’s always better to live the truth than to live a lie.

Characters :
– Tessa is stronger. She has built this shell around her heart. Jem is the only one allowed in, first. After all, she has suffered from her brother’s betrayal AND Will’s cruel behavior.
– Jem is perfection. Jem is bae. He always does what’s right to do. He thinks he isn’t worthy of a woman’s love because of his illness. Tessa puts life in him, and that’s wonderful to read about.
– Will is struggling with his deep feelings. He finally learns the truth about the curse.
– Charlotte is not as soft hearted as we could have thought. She is the rightful head of the London Institute.
– Sophie is becoming an important character. More than just a maid. Her opinion matters a lot. She is strong minded and a loyal character. I really like her.
– Magnus. Oh dear Magnus. He is such an interesting character ! He told Tessa Tessa that the more you live the less you feel. But he does feel, a lot. For Camille, his vampire lover, for Will, the broken shadowhunter. He feels more than he would admit.

When two souls are as one, they stay together on the Wheel. I was born into this world to love you, and I will love you in the next life, and the one after that.

I really loved rereading this book. My heart has fluttered a lot. I felt a deep joy and also a huge grief and despair. I’m not gonna say more because I said I would avoid spoilers as much as possible. I’ll just had that many tears were shed.

| BOOK REVIEW | THE RISE OF NINE BY PITTACUS LORE

the rise of nineThe Rise Of Nine
Author : Pittacus Lore
Series : Lorien Legacies
Genres : Young Adult, Science Fiction
Publication : August 2012 by Harper

The Rise of Nine is the third book in the Lorien Legacies series. This review will spoil you if you haven’t read the previous books.

Goodreads’ synopsis : Until the day I met John Smith, Number Four, I’d been on the run alone, hiding and fighting to stay alive.

Together, we are much more powerful. But it could only last so long before we had to separate to find the others. . . .

I went to Spain to find Seven, and I found even more, including a tenth member of the Garde who escaped from Lorien alive. Ella is younger than the rest of us, but just as brave. Now we’re looking for the others—including John.

But so are they.

They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They caught me in New York—but I escaped.
I am Number Six.
They want to finish what they started.

But they’ll have to fight us first.

A wise man once told me that only by leaving someone good can you meet someone better.

In this book, Four and Nine are obviously teaming up and kind of trying to find a way to free Sam and to find the others members of the Garde.
Meanwhile, Six, Marina and Ella are trying to find eight, helped by Crayton.
We also learn some major things. First, it’s about Sarah. It was something I suspected.
Moreover, Setrakus Râ is an imminent threat.
Things get more and more complicated because they’re trying to avoid the Mogadorians and the US government.

Characters :
– John is still a little too whiny, in my opinion. But he also knows what he wants. He is such a loyal friend.
– Nine is the reckless one. I think he will be a rather important character in the next books.
– Six is always the badass one. I really like her character !
– Marina is a little weak but doing her best to help her comrades.
– Ella is so adorable. I think she’s the cute character, in their team.
– Eight is a really interesting character. I loved how he managed to stay hidden and worshiped.

I really like the fact that they all team up in the end of the book. Finally. I think the next book will be full of badass moments, and so action packed.
This one was already a page turner, you barely have the time to take a deep breath that another struggle, another battle is here. But there are funny moments too and I really enjoyed it !

I didn’t like the changes of POV. Sometimes I wasn’t able to tell who was talking, Six or Marina. That bothered me a lot.
I wish we could have read about Sam, too. We don’t know a single thing about how he is. Is he still alive, or already dead ?

Anyway I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to buy the next one !
